Bentley IV Named To FWAA Freshman All-America Team

DALLAS (FWAA/SMU) – Ulysses Bentley IV was named to the 20th edition of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced Monday.

A redshirt-freshman from Houston, Texas, Bentley IV was selected Rookie of the Year in the American Athletic Conference and to the conference first team. He was also listed on Doak Walker and CFPA Watch Lists. He finished the season as one of only two freshmen nationally with 10+ total TDs (12).

The freshman led the conference with 913 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 10 games. His 11 rushing TDs set the SMU freshman single-season record and his 913 rushing yards in the regular season were over 200 more than any other player in the conference.

He scored his first seven TDs in the opening three games of the season, which tied for the sixth most in a three-game span at SMU.

Bentley IV registered 149 yards and two TDs in the win over Navy, giving him his fourth game of the season with multiple rushing TDs, and his 217 all-purpose yards gave him his second game of the season with 200+ (248 yards at UNT). In the game at Tulsa, he posted his fourth 100-yard rushing game of 2020.

He finished the season ranked 17th nationally in rushing TDs and total TDs and 18th nationally in rushing yards.

Bentley IV becomes the first Mustang to earn Freshman All-America honors.
