Those 12 days after Navy will be crucial after starting with six straight games.

The Houston-Memphis-Central Florida-Cincinnati-Tulsa stretch will be a huge challenge, but that is what we need to be able to handle in the Power Six.

Looking forward to the season! Go Ponies!

From SMUMustangs.com:

SMU’s 2021 Football Schedule Set

IRVING, Texas (AAC/SMU) -- The American Athletic Conference has released the 2021 SMU Football schedule, a slate that includes games against AAC Champion Cincinnati, Championship game participant Tulsa, and perennial AAC power UCF, as well as in-state rivals Houston and TCU.

The previously announced non-conference schedule includes home games against Abilene Christian (Sept. 4) and North Texas (Sept. 11) to open the season, before the Mustangs hit the road for games at Louisiana Tech (Sept. 18) and TCU (Sept. 25) in the 100th Battle for the Iron Skillet. The 2020 edition of the Iron Skillet was canceled.

SMU opens conference play at home against USF on Oct. 2, while also hosting Tulane (Oct. 21), UCF (Nov. 13) and Tulsa (Nov. 26/27). Both USF and UCF return to the Mustangs' schedule in 2021.

The road slate includes trips to Navy (Oct. 9), Houston (Oct. 30), Memphis (Nov. 6) and Cincinnati (Nov. 20). As part of the conference's former West Division, the Mustangs traveled to Navy, Houston and Memphis in 2019, but it will be the first time SMU travels to Cincinnati since the 2017 season (W, 31-28 OT).

SMU finished 7-3 in 2020 and earned a bid to the Frisco Bowl. The seven wins were the first in back-to-back seasons (10-3 in 2019) since the 2011-12 seasons, and the bowl bid was the second in three seasons under Head Coach Sonny Dykes. The Mustangs reached No. 16 in both the AP and Coaches Polls during the season and were ranked or receiving votes in at least one poll every week in 2020.

Freshman All-American and AAC Rookie of the Year Ulysses Bentley IV returns for 2021, along with all-conference selections Hayden Howerton and Jaylon Thomas.

Kickoff times and TV information will be announced at a later date.

For ticket information, call (214) SMU-GAME (768-4263). Season ticket renewals are available by logging in to your SMU account or calling the SMU Ticket Sales Office.

What the? If you’re not happy with this regime, you need to stop being a fan altogether. We have not been in better hands for decades. What a remarkably ignorant statement.

what is remarkably "ignorant" is you thinking it has anything to do with this regime
Sonny is about as close to a perfect match for SMU as you can get
I am hopeful Sonny..if he stays here..we can win 7-8 games a year in a non-P5
depending on scheduling....it's do-able
and every few years maybe we can even win a 9th or 10th game
my issue isn't with Sonny....it's with delusional fans
and it's really not an issue....it's more of an amusement
that they really think after decades of hearing the same ole same ole
that we really are about to put it all together & return to some kind of consistent glory
when exactly is that going to happen?

"we're about to put it together"..."only a few key players away"
"just wait" - "be patient"
"we are only 2-3 classes away"
"if it wasn't for injuries we'd be....."
"give him a chance to get his own players"
"it's academics that we need to make changes to if we want to really compete"
"if we get the indoor practice facility"
"this new coach is going to reach out to Dallas to fill the stands"
"hey if we sell booze at games that will help fill the stands"
"we need creative marketing"

I suppose "hope springs eternal" (from 1732) is a good thing
but I have accepted/embraced what I think is our reality
I enjoy the games, the popcorn and cokes, and nachos watching SMU games
while also watching some delusional fans pretend "one day we'll get there..."
we're not going to get there....but that's ok....it really is

"consistent glory"? I must have missed that era of SMU football. In my lifetime, SMU football has never experienced more than a few consecutive years of competing for conference championships and as a program, we are still well under .500 in our overall history. I think a lot of us are just hopeful we can reach a point of doing that in the AAC. I don't think anybody expects to compete for a National Championship any time soon...certainly not in my lifetime.

But did you miss the cry-babies just two months ago basically saying things like "I'm not attending or even watching SMU play in the Frisco Bowl...it's an embarrassment"

If we only win six games next season....I expect there will be some questioning Sonny being the coach here.

They are delusional....they can't accept who we are.

Well, this is SMU. We have more than our share of spoiled, entitled alumni...especially when it comes to (not) supporting SMU athletics. Some will show up again when SMU does make it to another AAC Championship Game.
