isn't NAVY on a downward trajectory? (3-7 last season)

looking at our schedule, NAVY on the road, is a must win for us!

This could be the season, when we break the Navy road JINX.

what is remarkably "ignorant" is you thinking it has anything to do with this regime
Sonny is about as close to a perfect match for SMU as you can get
I am hopeful Sonny..if he stays here..we can win 7-8 games a year in a non-P5
depending on scheduling....it's do-able
and every few years maybe we can even win a 9th or 10th game
my issue isn't with Sonny....it's with delusional fans
and it's really not an issue....it's more of an amusement
that they really think after decades of hearing the same ole same ole
that we really are about to put it all together & return to some kind of consistent glory
when exactly is that going to happen?

"we're about to put it together"..."only a few key players away"
"just wait" - "be patient"
"we are only 2-3 classes away"
"if it wasn't for injuries we'd be....."
"give him a chance to get his own players"
"it's academics that we need to make changes to if we want to really compete"
"if we get the indoor practice facility"
"this new coach is going to reach out to Dallas to fill the stands"
"hey if we sell booze at games that will help fill the stands"
"we need creative marketing"

I suppose "hope springs eternal" (from 1732) is a good thing
but I have accepted/embraced what I think is our reality
I enjoy the games, the popcorn and cokes, and nachos watching SMU games
while also watching some delusional fans pretend "one day we'll get there..."
we're not going to get there....but that's ok....it really is

What should be encouraging to everyone is that Sonny and the team have expressed frustrations over a 7-3 season.

We have a killer schedule and a new QB room, so this might not be the year for a conference championship, but I certainly don't expect a big slide.

Who do you figure will be our signal caller next year, Jason?

Mordecai.

Stone is talented but has to jump three levels in talent - private school to normal high school, high school to college, college to high level college.

Mordecai, on the other hand, was about the same rating in high school, higher rated than Buechele out of high school, and has been playing against OU defenses for 2 seasons. He destroyed Ben Hicks numbers out of the same high school in Waco. He passed for 4K and ran for 1K his senior season. By all accounts he isn't transferring because he sucks, he is transferring because he keeps getting stuck behind generational talent. He is a much more proven prospect than the UT QB who transferred out, for example. The UT guy might have more upside, but Mordecai is more ready to play.

Assuming we have a spring practice, I would expect Mordecai to have a first season pretty close to what we saw out of SB and GG after they transferred. He doesn't have the same level of game experience the others had when they transferred in, but he has a better O Line than SB did.

I think the fact that people actually expect Stone to win the starting job is an indication that everyone is vastly underrating how good Mordecai was out of high school. His stats at OU in limited playing time are awesome. I expect him to win the starting spot and be a very good player for us over the next two years and then he leaves and Stone takes over.

That is a really good point. The jump from private HS to P6 is pretty huge.

It will be interesting to see when Stone starts getting a series here and there - probably a bit before he is totally ready with the new redshirt rules.

Assuming experience will prevail, it will be a nice luxury for Stone to get to play in 4 games and not burn a RS season. Gives him an opportunity to grow into the position, not to mention the additional year in school if he wants to take full advantage of the educational opportunities he will have

Alex do you know when was the last time we beat NAVY on the road?

Was it 2018 OT and 1998?

we agree on the 2nd part....especially the "from time to time"
i'm thrilled with the progress we've made
my motto is "7-10"
compared to where we've been...7 to 10 wins a year will make me a happy camper

Remarkable that we got one of the top QB’s in the nation, a true four-star blue chipper, and he may not start until his third year. That’s saying something about the upgrade in talent Dykes has brought.
