Cole has always stood up to what he thinks is right, which is a great quality. He’s also been a bit of an idiot in what he says so this isn’t surprising to me.

It’s pefectly rational to wait to see how things go with a vaccine that has been used only 8 months, made by companies that haven’t mass produced vaccines before, using a spike protein that hasn’t been used before - to avoid a disease that has a death rate now at effectively zero. That doesn’t make you some rebel -just assessing risks in the way that makes sense. It may be different than how you assess risk, but its not not crazy,

The case fatality rate in the USA is currently 1.8% (i.e. the likelihood you will die if you contract the virus). Keep in mind these figures are using mainly previous variants, not the Delta variant. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

627K deaths out of 34M Covid cases in the US. 3 deaths out of 187M vaccines. Take your pick.

CFR is for comfirmed cases. At least 60% of cases go unreported. So the actual case fatality rate is at most 1.1%.

Hypothetical. During the peak, everyone who had the sniffles got tested, so the CFR is way more accurate than it was a year ago.

Researchers at the University of Washington estimate that approximately 60 percent of U.S. coronavirus cases may have gone unreported, according to a study published on Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

No way we will ever know how many asymptomatic cases could be out there. If you don't know you have it and aren't in a situation requiring regular testing, why would you even test, especially if there is no "contact tracing" issue?

I do think the number of unverified-by-formal-test cases is much higher. But at least the UW study gives us some number.

The Washington Nationals just had an outbreak 4 players and 8 staff. 11 of the 12 had been vaccinated. Unverified gossip from Davy Martinez says it was the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

It was reported yesterday that the Pfizer vaccine drops in efficacy from ~90-95% to ~80-85% after six months. The Delta variant is no joke.

I'm pretty sure the Yankees recent breakthrough cases involved players and staff that had taken the Johnson vaccine. Seemed like a good idea to so many people to take only one shot vs two Closer to home, my neighbor who got the Moderna shots (me, too) came down with the Delta and has struggled with pneumonia like symptoms for about 5 weeks now. He is obese and diabetic so he knew he was on the vulnerable list. Contracted the virus shortly after being told by his employer it was time to come back into his office in downtown Charlotte. Back working virtually again.

Never said that spike protein vaccines had not been studied - but they have not been used at this scale before. If they had the FDA would have already approved them - which the have not. If you are overweight, have underlying conditions or are aged, then it is clearly worth the risk. If you are not in those categories it is not as clear and is each persons right to decide if they want to be a part of the big test. Maybe spike protein vaccines are fine down the road, maybe not. I sure hope they are fine for everyone’s benefit.

London during WW2: Government issued a blackout order. I'll do my part to make sure my family and the people around me don't get hurt.
Today: The government doesn't have the right to tell me I can't turn off my light. Everyone should make their own decisions about whether or not they feel comfortable with turning off their lights. Besides, if everyone turns off their lights, there is a still a chance you die randomly from a bomb.
