From head coach Sonny Dykes:

• “I feel like we’ve done a really good job of improving our roster from top to bottom — you’re only as good as the bottom third of your roster, and we feel like ours is much improved.”
• “We’ve got more players, young players that are going to contribute. There’s going to be more competition for spots. We’ll have guys that have been two- and three-year starters that are going to have to work hard to hold on to their job."
• "We’ll kind of rotate it through, give (quarterbacks Tanner Mordecai, Preston Stone and Derek Green) the opportunity to work with the ones, twos and threes. You know, the way we practice, we rotate receivers, and it’s not really as clear-cut as maybe you think with the ones, twos and threes... all of those guys will get a look, and we’ll try to evaluate it and make a decision as quickly as we can when it becomes obvious to everybody."
• "When you look at (new defensive coordinator) Jim (Leavitt) — I’ve tried to hire him several different times in the past and it hasn’t worked, (but) fortunate for us it worked this time. You just look at him, and where he’s been, and the success that he’s brought to each one of those programs. He’s a guy that, you know, when you look at his track record, they get a lot better in Year 1, even improving in Year 3, and typically are competing for championships pretty quickly.
