Mordecai Earns Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player Of The Week Honors

TYLER, Texas (SPORTyler/SMU) – Tanner Mordecai was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week, as announced by SPORTyler and the Tyler Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.

Mordecai was previously named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, a CFPA Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week and part of the Pro Football Focus College Team of the Week for his week one performance in the 56-9 win over ACU.

Mordecai set a school record and tied The American standard with seven passing TDs, including five in the first half, in Saturday’s win. The record-setting seven TD passes went to four different Mustangs, including Grant Calcaterra (2), Danny Gray (2), Nolan Matthews-Harris (2) and Rashee Rice. In addition to the career-high seven TD passes, Mordecai went a career-best 24-for-30 for 317 yards.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
