Problem is that there are no high quality, top level schools left to join us. IIRC Boise st. and SDSU turned us down. Do we really want to add 'second quality, lower level schools' ? What ever happens we (the AAC) will be ranked much lower than MWC and compared with cusa and the other left over conferences.

Interesting proposition. On some level I like the idea but obviously feels like relegation.

I get why C-USA is giving it a shot. But it would be basically two steps down for us. We’d be joining the Sun Belt.

There is absolutely nothing to like about this. And it’s not real anyway. Just take the best two options out of CUSA and eff the rest. Not that that’s a fun option, but what the current CUSA is floating is preposterous.

The blurring of the three conferences into regional conferences or pods should be of no interest to SMU. Geographically we would have little to get excited about.

Just win and we will create better options, perhaps paired with Memphis.

Not saying I like it for SMU. It would be the final nail in the coffin.

Just saying it makes sense. It’s basically how the original conferences were formed…regionally.

It makes sense if there's no potential of realignment and they said that it doesn't matter who you are on in the G5 none of you will go to the CFP 8 team then sure might as well save on travel costs.

However, Aresco should be fired and mocked if this plan was agreed to. Get the two or three best you can and keep pushing P6.

Simultaneously Hart and RGT need to get their [deleted] in gear and start selling SMU to any of the P5.

Hopefully everyone in this thread realizes how pointless this thread is. Either SMU moves into one of the already formed P5 conferences or we are left out in the cold. That’s it, no middle ground, no runner up. Anyone that thinks SDSU or Tulsa so going to save us is a moron. ***And yes, I’ve forgotten more about football than you know.***

The CBS proposal is fine for C-USA. Even the Sunbelt does not favor it. It would definitely weaken the AAC. Other than travel costs, what is the advantage? ESPN would not like it. Our media contract would suffer. Why even consider it? Consider this, is it better to be in a conference we can actually win occasionally, or be in a conference that we have little or no chance of ever winning? Is just collecting a paycheck enough? To me, beating Houston and TCU, and being nationally ranked is reward enough for a school our size.

The Big XII snub and the fact that we play 3 teams that were invited, should give our players plenty of reasons to go out and try and run the table, one game at a time.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Absolutely. If SMU runs the table against the defectors, it would be extraordinary and send a wonderful message to the media and P5 conferences that we are back!

As for the geographically aligning schools in the G5 conferences, it would be bad news for us and Memphis, most notably. We can't forget that MBB is a premier program for the Memphis Tigers and distributing schools regionally, reduces competitiveness as well for this sport.

However, a university like Temple can not realistically aspire to something more challenging. Their president said geographic not revenue is a better model for them.

What? I rather be in a challenging conference that draws fans than be in one where we question why we bother paying for tickets.

CUSA and UNT leadership now pleading with AAC to talk. Obviously they know their conference is vulnerable to losing it's top programs (SunBelt could be in the same boat) if that's the way Aresco and the AAC Presidents want to go. We can certainly feel their pain. It stinks being the last one chosen when teams are being picked.
