THEY'RE LEAVING

Tomorrow the 3 defectors will be admitted to the little8.
Now the next big question is how much will Aresco negotiate to leave early?

If they want out with 15 months remaining on the 27 (leaving next year) then IMO they should pay an additional 27mi. not including the 10mil or a total of 37mil /defector. That is calculated on the revenue gained by the little8 teams (30mil) times the number of months of early departure. They shouldn't balk at giving up a year or so of revenue to get all of the 'future' riches they will receive.

If Aresco agrees to anything less than a total per school of 25mil. then he should be fired. UCONN paid 17mil to leave early but was not moving to a 'land of riches' conference plus that was a few years ago. Plus today's price should at least include several years of inflation vs. the UCONN deal.

OPINIONS??

The decision to fire anyone should depend, at least in part, on potential replacements.

partly agree. two things- negotiated buyouts of the defectors and the replacements.

Concerning that Aresco said 'be patient'. I am wondering if he has contacted the best replacements and gotten a cold shoulder. IMO he would have been better off saying he has been in contact with a number of schools and the process will continue.

Given that the exit fee with full notice is $10 million and UConn paid $17 million in exit fees for a worthless football program while we were still under our previous low-paying tv contract I would think that teams looking to exit early would have to pay $10 million plus the $7 million in tv distributions each season they want to bypass. So if teams leave a year early it would be $17 million and if they leave two years early it would be $24 million.

As people have noted, $17 million had to be the bare minimum, and hopefully he can get more out of them. Of course, if we were ever to leave we have to be staring at this but this really is the least of our worries.
