SMU defense better watch #1 and #18 (6'5" WRs with speed)

TCU likes to go to former HS All American and HS 4 star 6'4" WR (actually he was measured at 6'4 and a half - almost 6'5") Quintin Johnstone (#1) who TCU flipped from Longhorns 2 yrs ago, on signing day. He is the highest rated WR recruit in TCU history and he was the # 1 High School WR recruit target of Alabama, Florida, LSU, OU, OHIO ST and many others. TCU likes to go to him on a long pass right away early in the game to get the other team discouraged immediately ! Look for a bomb to # 1 early. He is very fast with 4.4 speed which is kind of shocking for a big man. TCU has done that in every game so far. First or 2nd play is a bomb to # 1 or # 18.

The other outside WR (# 18) is former 4 star HS WR Savion Williams who TCU stole from UT and multiple SEC teams when he was very close to committing to an SEC team. Then UT stepped in and he was projected to them and gave UT a verbal promise but then changed his mind the next day and committed to Frogs. He is also a former HS 4 star recruit who is 6'5" and this is his first year starting. He is a beast at 6'5"/215 with not as much speed as #1 but extremely dangerous w/4.5 speed and a large body. He was a QB in High School (and occasional WR) who is still learning WR position and has enormous upside at WR. He dominated this yr in Fall Camp and coaches very excited about him. His size allows him to be very physical and muscle the defenders on long bombs. Very very difficult guy to defend. Last year's starting Safety (who is now the starting Safety for NFL Las Vegas Raiders) said Savion Williams was the toughest guy to defend that he has ever had to go against due to his size and the way he has learned to overpower and intimidate defenders.

TCU likes to go long right away early in the game to # 1 and # 18. Watch those two very close !! They are both out there on the field for one reason and one reason only - for the Home Run ball - as Cal found out the hard way, even though the TCU QB missed on 8 long balls when they were wide open (he did hit on 3 of 11 - but that is unacceptable when WRs are wide open - about 5 times in Cal game the TCU fans gasped in horror when WRs were wide open with no defender within 10 yrs of WR and the Frog QB grossly overthrew the WR - kind of shocking to watch actually and really bad !!) .

These 2 WRs are game planned to go long and go long often !!

I feel kinda sorry for SMU Defensive backs in this game !! Gonna be really ugly for them.

Could be really ugly for the TCU defensive backs also. GRAY and ROBERSON are the real deal.

Both SMU and TCU defensive backs have to all be having nightmares prior to this game !! Gonna be BOMBS AWAY for both teams !!!!

May the best team win. And that team wears purple. Haha. See you at The Carter !!

Both these WRs will go pro in 2 yrs and #1 will be a 1st or 2nd Rd NFL draft choice.

Anyone figure out yet how Schmoo is going to defend both outside WRs who are called the twin towers who both have tons of speed ?

BUELLER ?

They have a combined 11 receptions for 155 yards and 2 TDs. Danny Gray, who we stole from TCU before early signing day 2019, had more than that in the same number of games (2). Number 18 also had 0 catches in the Cal game. They may be all world athletes, but can the QB get them the ball?

Danny Gray wasn't stolen from TCU. Coaches took three 4 star WRs in that class and Gray was told to look elsewhere. Coaches liked him and they weren't rude to GRAY but told him he would have a better future at a lower level team and TCU's offer was no longer commitable. So he moved on. Good for him. He is a good kid. But TCU got 3 much higher ranked 4 star WRs that the Frogs simply could not pass up. They also got a 4th WR in that class who was a 3 star WR who was still more highly ranked than GRAY, so TCU actually had 4 WRs ranked higher than GRAY in that class. Gray would have sat the bench for 4 yrs at TCU. Glad to see him doing something at another place. Good kid !! Just didn't have talent to play at TCU.

You are CORRECT that the TCU QB is having trouble getting the 2 outside WRs (future NFL WRs) the ball. He is having trouble connecting with them. They had 2 weeks to work on it and word on the street over in Ft Worth, is that it will be BOMBS AWAY right from the first offensive series, in the SMU game. We will see.
