Massey Named AAC Special Teams Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – Sophomore Bryan Massey was named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Massey had a 95-yard kick return touchdown to help the Mustangs overcome a 14-point deficit and defeat Navy, 31-24, on the road Saturday. The sophomore now has a pair of returns for 134 yards this season.

In six games, Massey also has 14 tackles, including one for loss, an interception for 48 yards and three pass breakups.

With the win, SMU retained the Gansz Trophy for the second straight season. It was the first win in Annapolis since a 24-11 victory 1998.

SMU has the most AAC weekly honors of any team this season with eight, while Cincinnati and Houston each have seven and Memphis six.

The Mustangs moved up one spot to No. 23 in both the AP and Coaches Polls, and have an open week this week. Tulane comes to Ford Stadium Thursday, Oct. 21 for a 6:30 p.m. kick on ESPN.
