Sun Belt and Conference USA Next Moves

Postby Water Pony » Wed Oct 20, 2021 9:07 pm

With the loss of 6 CUSA schools to the AAC, Sun Belt targets 3 Conference USA members, plus an FCS school. CUSA looking at adding two.

Weird to see Southern Miss mentioned in regard to Conference USA. There was a time Southern Miss was an outstanding program.

Funny how the MAC is the most stable but most useless conference in existence that the bottom conferences go to the FCS over them.

MAC schools understand their place in the world of college athletics. Sitting in the footprint of the Big 10 and with typically lower academic standards, they provide an option for "next tier" students and athletes in those states. With the transfer portal, they can also become a "minor league" for Big 10 schools

Bottom line with the AAC's expansion to 14 teams is that Aresco is preparing for the loss of another member or two in the future. We know SMU, Memphis & USF would bolt in a heartbeat if the Big XII came calling so the AAC would be in a good position to backfill from the remaining SunBelt and/or CUSA schools.
