Mordecai Named AAC Offensive Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – For the third time this season, SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai has been named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Mordecai helped lead the Mustangs to a 55-26 win over Tulane on Thursday night, giving SMU a 7-0 start for the second time in three seasons.

The junior threw for 427 yards and three touchdowns, while also running for one, bringing his nation-leading passing TD total to 29.

The career-best 427 passing yards is ninth on SMU's single-game passing list, while his six 300-yard passing games this season tie for sixth for a Mustang and the 462 yards of total offense rank sixth as well.

Mordecai currently leads the nation in passing TDs and points responsible for (186), while his total offense (3rd, 357.9), completion percentage (5th, .711), completions per game (5th, 26.71), passing efficiency (6th, 176.3), passing yards per game (6th, 331.4) and passing yards (8th, 2,320) are all in the top 10.

Mordecai is a member of the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Award Watch Lists, and has been named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week twice. He has also been named a CFPA Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week selection and to the PFF College Team of the Week, the Davey O'Brien Great 8 and a Manning Award Star of the Week.

The three weekly honors are tied for the most by an individual this season with Houston's Marcus Jones, who was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time in 2021.
