Mordecai Named To Davey O’Brien QB Class Of 2021

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – Tanner Mordecai was today named to the 40-member Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2021, as announced by the Davey O'Brien Foundation. Each member of the group is now an official candidate to win the 2021 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.

Mordecai leads the nation in passing TDs (29) and points responsible for (186), while his total offense (3rd, 357.9), completion percentage (5th, .711), completions per game (5th, 26.71), passing efficiency (6th, 176.3), passing yards per game (6th, 331.4) and passing yards (8th, 2,320) are all in the top 10.

He has at least four TDs in five of seven games and has passed for 300+ yards in six of seven games this season. His seven TDs against ACU broke the SMU single-game record.

Mordecai earned back-to-back AAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after wins at La. Tech and against UNT, and earned his third after the win over Tulane. He was added to the mid-season Maxwell Award and Manning Award Watch Lists.

The next step in the process will be to select the award's 16 semifinalists. The semifinalists will be chosen based on voting from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee as well as the first round of the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote.

For the second straight year, the Fan Vote will take place on the award's three social media platforms—Instagram, Twitter and Facebook—and the top five vote getters on each will receive bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the National Selection Committee.

To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original Davey O'Brien Award post highlighting the quarterback. Each round of the selection process (semifinalist, finalist and winner) will offer two one-week voting periods for fans. The 16 semifinalists will be named on Nov. 9, while the finalists will be tabbed on Nov. 23. The winner will be announced live on Dec. 9 on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
