SMU head coach Sonny Dykes and guard Hayden Howerton met the media after the Mustangs fell, 28-25, at Memphis.

Sonny is clearly not an "excuse" guy but not having Bentley and a couple of OL absolutely has an impact on this offense, regardless of his comment. I thought Epton might get a few more carries after they burned his RS in this game. We just never got any running game established and that hurt. Of course, Memphis couldn't run, either but have to give them credit for playing aggressive 4 down football all day and making big plays when they needed to.

His body language, lack of eye contact and responses are telling. This is a Sonny that we haven't seen before.

Yeah, usually he’s all smiles. But then again, usually Sonny is being interviewed after a W.

To a degree, I appreciate that Sonny is a “buck stops here” kinda guy. But at some we all need to recognize the elephant in the room, which is that we are still a couple of roster upgrades away from a championship team. Case in point, how do you think this team would look without the timely transfer of Mr. Rogers from Florida? How about if this team had a healthy TJ back in the stable?

The bright spot of this game was our DL versus the run. They were terrific, including another All-Conference performance by Mr. Chatman.

But the game ball has to go to the refs. Those BS pass interference calls made our DBs jobs untenable.

I think if we played that game 5 times, the Mustangs would win 4 of them. Seems like Memphis got ALL of the calls, and came down with most of the contested catches.

I assume his body language is a reflection of higher expectations. At the beginning, winning games was nice. A lot more was on the line with the last 2, so I assume there disappointment is greater.

A lot of "coach speak" with making it about the coaching staff not having the guys ready to play but the reality is that he has to be disappointed with how poorly his guys have played the past 2 weeks and how inconsistent they have been all year for that matter.
