ESPN game production quality

Postby DC-Pony » Sat Nov 13, 2021 6:15 pm

…has really struggled the last couple of games.

First, I’m not referencing that announcers are virtual.

The KNOWLEDGE and pre-game prep has been noticeably weak. Today was highlighted by repeated reference to EliZA Chatman. Really? Do you really think the male football player’s name is Eliza? And if you’re not certain, take a glance down at the roster. It will show you it’s actually Elijah.

The camera work is all over the place with regularity, missing parts of the live play. Not being able to track the ball.

The footage and camera queues include cutting to recordings of the band pre-game rather than showing the touchdown replay that the announcers are trying to talk about.

Mind you, these are just some of the examples…from one game.

If ESPN’s rebuttal is that SMU’s play the last few games has also been up and down…that’s fair. Or that the fans aren’t showing up to the games ESPN is taking the time to broadcast…also fair.

I wonder what happened to the ESPN+ crew that called the first couple of games? I thought they were awesome and were doing a really good job, both play by play and analysis.

I'm just happy they're televised. I had fun failing to watch SMU vs #13 Oregon men's basketball last night.

Video quality mid 1990s. Not HD level.

I have a great picture but the camera work is terrible. Deep passes to the near sideline are not in the picture.

ESPN U much worse video than the other ESPNs. Maybe just You Tube TV issue.

Agree. ESPNU + "The Ocho" but it's where you can find those "how did I ever live without one of those" products advertised
