Via Drew Davidson: Officially official. Told TCU and Sonny Dykes agreed to six-year deal nearing the $30 million mark.

Really? Selling your soul to the devil was only worth an extra $1 million a year?
Then again, it was never about cash....

If TCU had money-whipped him, we wouldn't like it but it would make sense. But it's not like they offered an extra million to one of us. In his tax bracket, that's not a huge difference, making the picture included in that tweet even more disgusting.

It’s all about P5 vs. G5.

Plus 3.5x for assistants (that was key, that and the recruits).

The Big 12 is Power 5 in name only. They have lost all of the blue blood football schools. UT, A&M, Nebraska, OU all fled for true Power conferences. It looks more like the old WAC.

It’s so much better than what Hart “negotiated” for SMU. (i.e. North Texas, UAB,UTSA, Rice…). Who wants to coach or play on this little and insignificant stage?

Dykes left not for the money, but as previously stated P5 vs G5 - If we were P5 there would not have been a money difference.

Exactly. I don't buy the P5 excuse for going to TCU. The Big 12 is now tied with the PAC-12 as the "other two" in P5. TCU and Baylor were both ranked in the top 4 several years ago and neither made the playoff. Being a small private school, they would need to dominate in back to back years for the playoff committee to give them shot at a playoff. At that point, the current playoff contract is up. Who knows if there will even be a P5.

Whatever it is, it will be better than the AAC and have a better television $contract. Going to be tough getting excited to play the Charlotte 49’ers and the FAU Owls.

To address the immediate challenge of replacing our three best programs, Aresco intentionally invited 6 programs in large metropolitans areas. The idea is to nurture these programs in Birmingham, Boca Raton (Fort Lauderdale), Charlotte, Houston, North Dallas, and San Antonio and make them better than any other G5 conference. With the exception of Rice, all the schools have larger enrollment in urban areas. That is the game plan.

If we are the leader of this reconfigured conference, we have a future.

Given the situation Aresco and the AAC were in, I think he did as well as could be expected...forward thinking, to be sure. I like the "Metro model" and selfishly for me, I might be able to watch our guys play "local" games in Charlotte. Was playing golf today with a Virginia neighbor who is excited about the progress UNCC has made in hoops after hiring an assistant coach from Virginia's staff. To be honest, I have not been following their program but will have to start paying more attention

We want to move to a better conference we need to win, win, win. And win some championships. Try to fill the stadium and make SMU a place Dallas citizens want to see games. If we do that, we will be a successful program by all measures.

UNCC has had historically good hoops. Same with UAB. With Wichita State, Tulsa, Memphis, and us, we can be a legitimate hoops conference as well. The Big XII kept Kansas because of their hoops. SEC has kept Kentucky because of their hoops. Big 1G invited Maryland for their hoops. ACC keeps UVA for their hoops. So, add in a few metro areas and some good hoops teams in hopes of growing their football programs and you may be able to soften the pain of losing one large market team with mediocre attendance and two mid market teams with great attendance. The Cincy Reds consider themselves a small market team. The Big XII TV contract will not be anything close to its current $$$$ and we will take a hit as well. The networks will be the winners because they can low ball the Big XII and AAC, and not pay significantly more for the SEC.

To add to this: We lost teams in the 8, 17, and 36 media markets. We added teams in 8, 18, 22, 31, 45 media markets. The difference between Orlando and Miami is about 40,000. We gained access to 4.68 Million TV's and lost 2.65 televisions. I didn't count any additional TVs for UNT since they share the market. We currently have teams in the 4, 5, 8, 9, 13, 24, 28, 50, 51, 61, 70 and 17/36 until they leave. Obviously, we have few state schools and many teams share markets, Temple shares Philly with NOVA and Penn. Navy shares DC/Balt. market with Maryland. Obviously, ECU and UNCC share NC with Duke, UNC, NC State and Wake. Although Charlotte is a decent market, 1.03 televisions.
