With Miami dropping out, could SMU fill the slot?

NO. SMU ended the season. The players and coaches are gone.

I'd say Virginia ended the season.

ECU and Memphis did the same.

When the game was canceled they had to consider the possibility of another bowl spot opening up. Did they ask what the players wanted to do? Coach Schiano at Rutgers said he was flooded with texts from players saying game on which was part of the reason they accepted the bid.

The only thing I can think of is that Hart might be wanting to use this chit for ACC membership. But that would be generous on my part.

Part of the problem was that the equipment is in New England. Kind of hard to get it to El Paso in a short week.

Going to disagree on this. Sun bowl is scheduled for Friday. Once we got word on Sunday that the game was canceled could have turned around the trucks. It wouldn't take 5 days to drive the trucks from Boston to El Paso. Word broke Sunday morning. Could have driven 10 hours on Sunday, 10 today and the rest on Tuesday.

Bottom line the AD has to want to do something for it to happen.

Last year Coastal Carolina and BYU put a game together in less than a week because both team and schools wanted it to happen. Little Ricky doesn't want to work that hard.

Yep to all of this. But given coaching turmoil and seniors skipping we were going to get torched in any bowl. Mishandled but probably no big loss.

Fact is we don't know who said what to whom, whether an offer was made, etc. If nothing was offered, there was nothing to accept or decline.

Fact is we had two possible bowl match-ups after ours blew up. ECU in either Boston or Annapolis. Or Washington in the Sun Bowl. Don't tell me El Paso organizers wanted Eastern Michigan over SMU. This was a matter of Hart being either respected and pro-active, or not respected or not proactive. Either way, I am really disappointed in his performance on this one. Add in letting NT into our Conference , the reseating mess, Sonny Dykes, Larry Brown and not getting us into another conference shows its one of those two things. He needs to pull off a Conference change to a P5 Conference to change my mind.
