Another side of Kelvin Beachum?

Postby PonyPride » Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:40 pm

Anyone watching Cardinals/Rams game?

Los Angeles DT Aaron Donald gets into it with Arizona offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, who loses his helmet in the scrum, at which point Beachum stepped in, getting in Donald's face.

Certainly not the first player to stand up for a teammate.

Then, a few plays later, the Cardinals finally score, and on the ensuing two-point conversion, Beachum got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. L.A. LB Leonard Floyd sort of steered Beachum into Arizona QB Kyler Murray. Maybe Beachum thought Floyd had hit Murray unnecessarily — hard to say — but Beachum planted Floyd, and when Floyd got up, shoved him again to draw the flag.

It was a weird look to those who know him. Most who have met Beachum know him to be a nice guy, usually smiling, generous in the community (he is Arizona's nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award), etc. Then again, his former SMU teammates talked about how the nice guy takes on an entirely different personality on the field. It could be magnified tonight, since the Cardinals currently on the short end of a 28-8 score.

Humphries got injured and ended up going out a few plays later. I think that was part of what they were upset about, there was some sort of cheap shot on the play that resulted in injury. And then a couple of plays later, Floyd kind of went down towards the knees of Murray and that is what Bach took exception to.

Agree with all of that.

It just caught my attention. When it happened, I wondered if that might have been the first unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of his career.

Also, want to feel old? It doesn't seem like that long ago that then-SMU offensive line coach Ronnie Vinklarek was telling me about how he thought "the basketball player from Mexia" had a bright future, despite the fact that he was almost 240 pounds when he showed up at SMU. That "basketball player" just wrapped up his 10th NFL season.

Not bad for a guy who was supposed to be too small to play in college or the NFL, right?

I was pulling for a Buffalo/Arizona Super Bowl to see Beachum and Banjo vs. Sanders and Beasley

That Bills -Chiefs game was epic. Sanders and Beasley both made significant contributions to that game. Too bad they were on the short end. Who ever had the ball last was going to win. But 10 seconds to go 40 yards is other worldy.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Was this the best round of NFL football ever? Every playoff game was won on the last play of the game. Just wow!
