That was my thinking if he is allowed to skip out on spring practice. In my day, guys who played baseball at SMU were allowed to miss spring ball.

He can run unattached at college meets that accept unattached competitors but not compete at AAC or NCAA regional or championship meets.

Seems like that's our best offer. "You could become the 100m champion at the UNT spring invitational. You can drive yourself and pay the entry fee with your cost of attendance money."

He can travel to meets with the women's team and pay out of pocket with the proceeds from an NIL deal. The issue is that if he is nationally competitive he is going to want to compete for All-American status. If I were him I would ask for a release and attend TCU, LSU, Houston, Florida State, Florida, or USC.

Does he even want to pursue track?

Exactly.

This is the issue SMU needs to be proactive on. Administration could adopt the recruiting mindset and grow via this case.

I'm not saying build a statue for this guy. I'm saying he is another whisper of what we need to have accommodated to support football at the highest level. Right now it seems like: "Hey #1 track athlete in the country, you can go race at UT Arlington against UTD twice a year in the spring. We support you."

From DMN article:

"The love I have for track is so deep, I just can't stop at high school, especially with what I've been running the past month."

Pierre won the 6A state 100m title today. 10.22 into a headwind.

He should focus on what’s going to feed him and his future family. Football.

I don’t understand why he’d commit to a school knowing they don’t have a track program.

He didn't even make the state track meet last year. It probably wasn't on his radar much then.

Yeah, I'll have a nice ribeye and a side of CTE. Pro track athletes are compensated pretty well, plus don't have to worry about forgetting how to put shoes on and the constant drooling
