Irsay and Hunt should call Art Rooney. A Pitt alum. Jets owner is from BC. Get those NFL owners working the phones.

You’d need a business miracle to compensate for the fact that SMU has a small alumni base, small tv draw, and small attendance regardless of product on the field/court. That’s just the reality of it all no matter how much we wish it weren’t the case.

Right. Sorry to be negative but we can't even get 100 message board posts concerned with this let alone an army of businessmen and power brokers to petition the P5 conferences to accept what has recently been the 5th best football team in the AAC.

It almost reminds me of a story when I was at Langley. One of the generals was going to get something at the cleaners for some reason. The item wasn't ready on time and the guy at the desk wasn't helpful and a bit rude. The general was eventually like "I'm a general in the Air Force!" The reply was: "Who gives a s***"
Moral of the story is that the elite sometimes lose touch of what it's like outside their direct sphere of influence.

I could be totally wrong on this and the P5 is all illuminati shadow athletics and our leadership will get us into a surviving P5 but I'm not holding my breath.

Kinda. One could argue that the small tv draw & small attendance are due in part to the overall product being offered in a major city that has multiple entertainment choices.

SMU vs ECU will never draw fans, regardless of SMU’s record.

SMU vs Fl State competing for a conference championship might get completely different results, we simply don’t know because that situation hasn’t existed in over 40 years, maybe it’s never existed before.

But it did exist 40 years ago in the early 80's when SMU fielded one of the best football programs in the country and still had difficulty selling out Texas Stadium against UT & Arkansas for games to determine the SWC Champ, even when those opponents brought half the crowd. You are right about the ECU reference...I remember several games against lesser opponents when we couldn't even fill up half of Texas Stadium

Right, but it would only be a different story because of the national draw and following that a large school like FSU has. Just as it would be if FSU plays Rice or Vanderbilt or Tulane or Texas State in a bout between undefeated teams in a conference championship. Leaning on bigger teams to make your argument is essentially confirming that SMU needs the larger schools and not the other way around.

And for all this talk about Dallas, I think the BIG XII and SEC have made it clear that they can host matches in DFW without needing a school here.

SMU/TCU merger causes a large fan base and a force to represent Dallas/Ft. Worth. It might be appealing to Big 10 or SEC.

Texas and Oklahoma individually probably bring more DFW area viewers than SMU/TCU combined. There are going to be a lot of football programs stronger than ours left behind or at least reduced to 2nd tier when all is said and done

Exactly. Imagine you are Washington State or Oregon State. Whatever remains or happens to the PAC12, they have the least influence or options for the future. In the ACC, Wake Forest, GA Tech, BC, and Syracuse will have few alternatives in future except in live in the Tier 2 world.

The Big XII may be the best of this Tier 2 Group, but unless you are in the SEC and Big 10, you will be consigned to Conferences which can never generate the revenue and media access needed to be on the big stage.

Meanwhile, SMU will be waiting for a call up or remain in the Group of 5 until a second Tier (see above) Conference needs Dallas, e.g. ACC or the reduced Pac12, which will likely lose Oregon and Washington at some point.

The long awaited age of the "Super Conferences" is upon us:

Conference realignment shifting into gear again suggests there will be several left out in the cold. The age of the superconference is upon us. It's up to everyone else to keep up.

It's hard to believe the 130 FBS teams will not be trimmed to a more historically dominant and successful group as financial gaps between programs continue to increase. If the FBS does get divided, the "lower" tier of teams will have to face and answer some difficult questions.

Look for the SEC and Big Ten, who have already separated from the crowd with monster media rights deals, to set standards -- scholarship limits, spending, rules -- that force schools to keep up.

The FBS could split into two (or more) tiers: elite brands (30-50) and everyone else (100-80), a group that could be subdivided further. The SEC and Big Ten will lap the field, but what that means for the rest of the sport is undetermined.

A Group of Five playoff was valued at $160 million in a 2017 study. Considering the continued rise of sports media rights, that number will have increased significantly from five years ago.

A formally multi-tiered FBS system would officially end the mirage of 130 FBS teams competing at the same level with legitimate shots at winning the CFP.

Dallas sports dtx collective.

We just need the bmd,s to join instead of starting over and having their lawyers figure it out legally. It has been done by dtx. Just get involved.

Butts in seats are one indicator. This is a war between ESPN and Fox. They are calling the shots. ESPN drew blood from Fox by poaching UT and OU. Fox’s defense was to grow its Big Ten face and adding two teams from #1 cable market to Big 10 network. So the short answer is maybe Fox is setting up a Big XII /PAC 12 merger. Hence the addition of BYU to Big XII makes sense. If thev add two more PAC teams to Big Ten, then PAC and Big XII can merge. If that happens we’re on the sidelines.

We had difficulty filling the stadium with thousands of tickets given away. Selling it out was never going to happen, even then.
