SDSU is a slam dunk if expansion occurs. And B12 poaching ain’t happening. So we are the only reasonable team left, over Fresno State. That’s the opinion of the sports writer who penned this article. Factor in academics, and our case is strengthened even more.

I do think that's his conclusion. He just ordered his options in a weird way.

That site is not letting me in - certificate problem?

I just don't see anyone else who helps the PAC 12 expand outside their west coast. SDSU makes sense to remain active in S CA. BYU is gone, and you already have Utah. Boise academics and location offset their competitiveness. They need movement East into a major metro area. Dallas just makes sense. Its an easy airport to reach, centrally located, and I suspect becoming a new home to many PAC 12 alums as of late. They need teams who want to play at earlier time slots and/or have that flexibility, as so many of their games are very late for most of the US. And of course additional news coverage in a major media market - maybe more.

I also noted that CA is the 2nd highest state represented by students, AZ 10 and CO 11. And they all recruit TX, some more than others, so playing here can only help. And of course the academics, prestige factor - Presidential Library, endowment certainly help.

For us, we have got to shed that G5 stigma. The extra income and access helps in P5, but just the level of respect, from rankings, to recruiting, and also news coverage. G5 folks always get shafted.

You guys know this. I'm just ranting to the choir!

BTW I can’t help feeling that just below my excitement level from being admitted to the PAC12 conference (if we are at some point) because it is a P5 conference will be my excitement level from snubbing our nose at the B12 since they’ve consistently been resistant against admitting us.

They (especially members UT and TCU) have felt they already “owned” the Dallas market and therefore didn’t need to water-down that by sharing it with SMU. Having another P5 conference with an actual team in Dallas won’t be good for the B12, and won’t be as good as the B12 consolidating their “ownership” of Dallas by admitting SMU.

And given the B12’s comments about the PAC12 I wouldn’t be surprised if the above dynamic would bring some satisfaction to the PAC12 commissioner and member schools as well.

I noticed on Twitter that Pac-12 Commissioner will be at the next Men's basketball home game.

Salt Lake morning radio contingent. Fairly objective. Montemayor has
also done radio in Arizona and Cali. Love the way they tongue in cheek
rip the notion that Utah has tons of alums in the Bay Area. Utah is probably
the least represented PAC school in this area proportional to the size of their
alum base. Sadly, the notion that SMU is a religious institution seems to
be very prevelant in that state if listener comments lend any validity. SMU is
uber non sectarian when compared to U of U. An entertaining listen even if only
for a few minutes.

I think that when the commish spends some time on campus, he will see that the 'religious' aspect is actually pretty minor compared to UU and Baylor for example. I don't think it will be an issue at all.

Congrats to SMU if everything goes through.

Everything changes when you're a P5.

Average afternoon high temperatures in September:

Dallas 93
Seattle 71; Pullman 76; Corvallis 83; Eugene 77; Palo Alto 76; Berkeley 75; San Diego 72; Salt Lake City 86; Boulder 82.

Night games in Tuscon and Phoenix no worse than Dallas with all of our humidity factored in.
