Good afternoon to all,
We have all appreciated your prayers and loving kindness traveling this journey we have taken with Paul Layne.

Paul had a sudden turn late yesterday that inevitably ended in his passing today around 12:45 pm. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully. We know this is going to come as a shock to many because we had such a good week last week. God has a plan for all of us and He called Paul home.

Paul will always be an amazing man that lived graciously, humbly and had so much loving kindness for anyone he met. He almost always knew your name and greeted you with an inviting smile.

Please continue praying for the family as they prepare a service for Paul and for life without his physical presence. He will always be present in our memories.

Thank you so much for your love, prayers, cards and well wishes and so much more.

With much love,

Trina and Paul’s Ponies

Oh no. I can't believe it. I was fully expecting him to be back cheering on SMU eventually.

One of the best ever. I always enjoyed road trips with Paul. Met so many Mustangs hanging out with him. On the Marshall trip in 2009, we ate lunch at Hillbilly Hot Dogs and went out to the cemetery to see the memorial.

Prayers lifted to his family and the multitude of people who call him friend.

Very sad news, S.M.U. should do something special for him at the frog game.

Saddened. Like so many, was encouraged and hopeful that he was recovering and would soon again start another streak, bringing so much love and joy to all that knew him, especially Mustang Nation and all that crossed his path. Loved the guy. This news puts a new meaning to the Maryland trip for me...Paul, we will make some noise for you, brother, so you and the angels hear us in heaven. PonyUP, my brother!!

Yes. It would be negligent to not plan something.

R.I.P SMU superfan!

Paul was a really class act. Good guy, lots of fun. Will definitely miss seeing him in College Park. In shock, but the longer he stayed in the hospital, I sensed this was going to have sad end. Prayers to his family and loved ones. Yes, SMU should do something at the TCU game, a moment of silence at least. Play Varsity in his memory.

Wow, this is a shock. He has been the one constant in my SMU football fandom over the many years. God bless you, Paul Layne.

Very sorry to hear this. We need more Pauls in the world. Glad to see him for decades at games and on SWA flights. A great ambassador for both. We'll miss him dearly.

I had a chance to meet him a couple of times. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He will be missed.
