Mordecai Named To Davey O’Brien QB Class Of 2022

FORTH WORTH, Texas (Davey O'Brien/SMU) – Tanner Mordecai has officially been named one of 40 quarterbacks in the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022, making him eligible to be voted one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.

Mordecai has thrown for 2,121 yards and 16 touchdowns in seven games this season and ranks ninth nationally in passing yards per game (303.0). The senior is also 17th in total offense (309.4). In the win over Navy, he became the first FBS QB this season with three 20+ yard TD passes & a 20+ yard TD run in a single game (via ESPN Stats). He finished with 410 yards of total offense, including 336 passing yards and 74 rushing yards, adding a career-long 60-yard TD run.

Mordecai owns five of the top-20 single-game total offense performances in program history and has multiple passing touchdowns in 15 of 19 games at SMU His 12 300+ yard games ties the SMU record. He is also top-10 at SMU in career passing TDs (3, 55), completions (7, 468), passing yards (8, 5749) and total offense (9, 5996).

Mordecai was also listed on Watch Lists for the Walter Camp Award, CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy, Maxwell Award, William V. Campbell Trophy, Manning Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

Fan voting is now open on the @DaveyOBrien Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. The top five vote getters on each of the three social media platforms will receive bonus committee votes which will be added to the ballots cast by the National Selection Committee.

To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original post highlighting the quarterback on official @DaveyOBrien social media channels. Each of the three rounds of the selection process (semifinalist, finalist and winner) will feature the Fan Vote, with vote totals reset prior to each round.
