No big surprise. Cincy will have tougher competition going forward so why not strike while the iron is hot? Not to mention if he can win at Wisconsin and Michigan keeps beating Ohio State his dream job could open up.

Paper is reporting anyone yet. This was such a big surprise I am pretty sure Cincy was caught off guard.

Rumor up here that Cincy is going to make a run at the Tulane coach.

Credit to Wisconsin and Fickell that they didn’t ruin the end of the Cincinnati season for the players and fans by leaking news of the talks, unlike the second class school and coach in Ft. Worth.

Well said. How were they winning in November if their coach had a new gig?!

BIG flexing their financial advantage. Cinci has B12 money to spend but can’t compete. Fickell was making $4 MM per year…
This will happen more and more….once an SEC or BIG school sets their sights on a coach from any other conference he’s a good as gone….

Georgia Tech also reportedly interviewed Tulane's Willie Fritz today and, according to multiple reports, is trying to finalize a deal with him.

AAC coaches are easy pickings for P5 programs financially and coaches realize they had better make their move when they are on top. Not sure Tulane can do a lot better than what they've shown this year.

AAC coaches to P5 have always been easy pickings. I agree with the comment above that coaches in any other conference being able to be picked off by the new P2 conferences is going to be a growing trend. Obviously you have to account for the schools involved—Northwestern and Vandy won’t be stealing coaches from Oregon and Clemson. But many more moves like Jimbo from FSU to A&M will happen.

I wouldn't want to go to Waco, Lubbock, Stillwater, Ft. Worth, Manhattan, Ames, and Morgantown either.

Cincy has now lost 3 recruits and 1 other who is still committed but reopened his recruiting. Losing Fickell is going to hurt especially with the portal getting started soon.

Funny, but in the B10 alone that list ‘could’ include:

Northwestern
Purdue
Minnesota
Rutgers
Indiana
Maryland
Illinois

From a football-only perspective, that’s a lot of dead weight.

It will be interesting to see how that plays out over time.
