Maryland, Rogers Honored As CFN Honorable Mention Freshman All-Americans

DALLAS (CFN/SMU) – True freshmen RJ Maryland and Collin Rogers were named honorable mention selections on College Football News' Freshman All-America list. The teams recognize both true and redshirt freshmen.

Maryland has six receiving touchdowns in 2022, second for a Mustang, and ranks third on the team overall in TDs. His TD total also ranks second on SMU's single-season list for tight ends. He leads Mustang tight ends with 290 receiving yards off 27 receptions. Maryland posted season highs of six receptions for 61 yards against Tulane, which marked his second multi-TD game of the season with a pair (2, vs. Houston).

Among American Athletic Conference tight ends, Maryland is tied for first for receiving TDs, is fifth in receptions and sixth in receiving yards. He leads freshmen tight ends in all categories. With FBS true freshmen, Maryland is second in both receiving yards and touchdowns and third in receptions.

Rogers is a perfect 56-56 on PATs in 2022, setting the SMU single-season record, and 15-19 on field goals, not missing beyond 46 yards. He is also tied for sixth on the Mustangs' single-season points list at 101, and tied for seventh with his 15 FGs made. His 11 PATs against Houston set the SMU single-game record.

He ranks in the top five of the FBS among true freshmen in PATs made (2nd, 56), total points scored by a kicker (2nd, 101), total points scored (4th) and total field goals made (3rd, 15).
