DFW guy was playing close enough to have family watch him at a good school. Now going JC 1,500 miles away.

Wonder if he would admit to regretting his decision to change course halfway through his freshman season.

Kidding aside, sounds like a GPA issue.

When you hear at the 11th hour that a guy is headed the JUCO route, you tend to assume it's a "grades" issue but in today's world, it could be the result of being recruited over and bringing in a proven veteran ( Sanders and Woods?) and wanting your FR to go somewhere he can get some playing time. Would be interesting to know whether our coaching staff has any connections to this JUCO. We can speculate all day long but this staff obviously thinks/thought Lawton has potential to contribute at this level.

True ... and there aren't a lot of 6'4" CBs out there

Is being unusually tall bad for a CB? Make them less quick or something?

One does not cause the other, but the vast majority of the time, taller kids get moved to other positions. Maybe he stayed there because he grew late?

If you didn't already watch the Last Chance U on Laney College football, I can't recommend it highly enough. He will get some high quality coaching, and valuable life experience.
