Arizona offensive lineman Justin Pugh had high praise for former SMU tackle (and Cardinals teammate) Kelvin Beachum, Jr., who is about to become a free agent:

"This makes me very happy for @KelvinBeachumJr he should get paid. Played every game at a high level. He’s THE BEST locker room guy/leader in the NFL. You want to improve your team bring in Beach!"

Beachum has re-signed with the Cardinals for two years. There was some thought that he might not be brought back after he called out Kyler Murray last week, saying the QB needs to "grow up." Beach has enormous credibility among teammates (see the comment above), but when there's a chance of off-field tensions, teams side with the franchise QB who just got the keys to the Brinks truck. That they welcomed back Beachum again speaks volumes about what the team thinks about the tackle who will play his 12th NFL season in 2023.

He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2012 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I keep going back to the fact that many thought he was too small to play in college — he was just under 240 when he started as a freshman — and certainly was thought by many to be "too small" for the NFL.

Now, another two-year contract means a pro career that will reach at least 13 seasons.

I always believed in Beach. There was just something about him. Such a solid presence. A quiet determination. And a smart mind. He has been a really solid player. Just gets the job done. And, he has been a leader off the field. A truly outstanding representative of SMU.

And it’s not like he didn’t have the frame. Proud of Kelvin.
