Something I haven't seen mentioned in a while -- SMU's appeal goes beyond TV market size, academics and potential. Membership in the PAC 12 would give their programs regular exposure in the best football recruiting market in the nation.

In an effort to stabilize the conference and keep pace with the SEC and Big Ten, which continue to grow both in membership and financial prosperity, the ACC explored options for expansion, ESPN’s David Hale reported.

“ACC has looked at a few (expansion options),” Hale wrote on Twitter, “including Oregon, Washington, SMU and West Virginia. From what I've been told, the $$ just aren't there.”

I don't see Oregon and Washington having interest in the ACC. Maybe that moves us up their list.

and after the b12 gets the four corners schools and the B!G gets their picks there might be 4 schools left and the conference implodes. As usual we are left standing when the music stops. IMO not moving up will have a big effect on our recruiting.

Old news from early May that ESPN may not be enthusiastic.

Not hitting the panic button yet. Much of this has already been written. Apple
is probably still an option. A good one IMHO. Find it hard to fathom that CU
and Utah would move to the Big 12. All the 4 corners schools have benefitted
off the field in ways not possible with the Big 12 though I'm ignorant about the
details.

Keep the faith. Not over yet.

Just to be clear, this article says that a CBS Sports reporter heard from a Big 12 official that heard it from an ESPN executive that ESPN does not currently have a deal for the media rights for the PAC-12. Where is the news? Because they are not currently doing anything with the PAC-12 does not mean they will not in the future. Total twisting of words.

OK City paper says CO likely headed to Big 12. Story triggered lots of follow-ups predicting gloom and doom for PAC 12.

Baylor insider believes this to be true and will be announced on Tuesday. More wild speculation IMO

Tramel is a UO alum and not considered objective. A few years ago he wrote
a collum extolling UO's academic virtues and stated that SMU was not a good
school because we lack AAU status. Why this dimestore hack cares anything
about the fate of the Big 12 or the PAC is a mystery. Unlikely he has any info
of substance regarding Colorado's plans.
