Story Links DALLAS (SMU) – A $1 million commitment from the Steve Lockton Family Foundation furthers SMU Athletics' mission by supporting the Garry Weber End Zone Complex at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
The drive for the end zone complex was launched in January 2022 with a $50 million gift from the Garry Weber Foundation, established by former Mustang football letterman Garry A. Weber '58. Bill Armstrong and Liz Martin Armstrong earmarked a $15 million gift toward the facility in September. Since 2013, SMU Athletics has invested over $250 million in championship-caliber facilities across campus. Construction on the expansion and improvement project began in January.
"SMU's competitiveness in football is an integral part of its overall mission as an institution," said J. Stephen Lockton '89. "We are proud to partner with SMU Athletics to see its vision for the future become a reality."
"The Locktons' gift continues the incredible momentum that our athletic department is currently experiencing," said Director of Athletics Rick Hart. "The Garry Weber End Zone Complex will make an indelible impact on all of our student-athletes and help propel SMU Athletics into its next era of success."
The Garry Weber End Zone Complex will connect the stadium's existing east and west gate entries. Its three levels will include new locker rooms, a weight room, meeting rooms, a full-team auditorium and a kitchen and training table to support all 484 SMU student-athletes. The new facility will also house football coaches, support staff, and video and recruiting services.
