Five Mustangs Named To NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas (NFF/SMU) – SMU football placed five student-athletes on the 2023 National Football Foundation's (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society list. It is the seventh straight season the Mustangs have multiple student-athletes on the list, and SMU is one of only 22 institutions to have had a student-athlete honored by the organization each year dating back to the program's inception in 2007.

In order to be nominated, student-athletes must be in their final year of playing eligibility, achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade-point-average, meet all NCAA-mandated progress toward degree requirements and must have been a starter or significant contributor during the 2022 season.

Beau Barker, Joe Bissinger, Owen Condon, Tanner Mordecai and Ben Redding represent SMU as honorees.

Beau Barker | WR | Amarillo, Texas | Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance
Barker saw action in 10 games in 2022 and was the Mustangs' Burlsworth Trophy Nominee. In three seasons of action on the Hilltop, Barker played in 26 games and was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team each season.

Joe Bissinger | OL | Houston, Texas | Masters of Management
Bissinger played in all 13 games in 2022, starting nine. He helped the Mustangs to national rankings of seventh in passing offense (316.7) and red zone offense (.919), 10th in third down conversion % (.478.), 11th in first down offense (331) and 15th in total offense (472.8..). He was named a Pro Football Focus All-AAC second-team selection.

Bissinger came to SMU after four seasons at Virginia having played in 33 games.

Owen Condon | OL | Oklahoma City, Okla. | Masters of Finance
Condon played in 12 games in 2022, making 10 starts and helping the Mustangs to national rankings of seventh in passing offense and red zone offense, 10th in third down conversion %, 11th in first down offense and 15th in total offense. He also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.

Condon played in 22 games at Georgia before joining the Mustangs, helping the them to a National Championship during the 2021 season.

Tanner Mordecai | QB | Waco, Texas | Masters of Science in Management
Mordecai started all 12 games played in 2022 and set SMU single-game records for passing TDs and TDs responsible for, as well as career TD passes, TD passes for a senior, career TDs responsible for, career games with 4+ TDs and career 300-yard games. He was a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards, and was also listed on the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy Midseason, Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award, William V. Campbell Trophy, Manning Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch Lists.

Ben Redding | TE | Friendswood, Texas | Masters of Liberal Studies
Redding played in nine games before suffering a season ending injury in 2022. He registered 13 catches for 107 yards and four TDs, including a career high three TD catches against Houston. He played in 55 games in five seasons on the Hilltop and is also an AAC All-Academic selection.
