AAC future

Has to be rough for Washington State and Oregon State (top 20!) right now. PonyFans can relate — we've been there before.

From AAC commish Mike Aresco:

The American Athletic Conference will “not look westward” for expansion following Friday’s news that the Atlantic Coast Conference is adding Stanford, Cal and SMU, AAC commissioner Mike Aresco said in a statement Friday.

AAC is already in Texas with UTSA, Rice & UNT so where do they look? Expect Aresco to follow form and target a school in a metro area in a state the AAC is not yet in. My guess is Georgia State in Atlanta would be high on his list.

Army.

UConn probably would not want to return with hat in hand.

Army as a football only member might work but they will probably want to replace SMU with another all sports member in a major metro market. That's why I think Georgia State is a logical fit just like UNC-Charlotte and UNT (knowing SMU was looking for a way out). Aresco is a bright guy who knows he will be competing with the MWC and even the SunBelt for that 5th auto bid in the CFP, assuming that's what will happen
