As a Clemson fan, I would like to welcome all of the SMU fans to the ACC. Clemson voted no on the expansion but that had more to do with ACC politics and potential positioning for an exit from the ACC than it did about the actual new member schools. Most Clemson fans that I know and have spoken to are pleased with the addition of SMU. Probably less pleased with the Stanford/UC additions - mostly due to bi-coastal travel and a significant difference in political viewpoints between California and South Carolina. Clemson is looking to leave the ACC due solely to $$$ and not necessarily due to the conference. All things being equal, Clemson would prefer to stay in the ACC but the $$$ disparity between the ACC and SEC/BIG makes that unrealistic from Clemson's viewpoint. Heck, Clemson is a charter member of the ACC (formed in 1953). All of this is to say ........ the ACC is a pretty decent conference with many fine schools. I have had the pleasure of attending football games at every ACC venue (some multiple times) and never had a bad experience. I think you guys will find this to be true as you travel to away ACC games. I certainly hope that we (Clemson) will get a chance to play a game at SMU - if so, I will definitely make the trip. And if you make it to Clemson for a game, I think you will be welcomed with open arms.
Congratulations to SMU!
