Replacement for SMU in the AAC

Postby SMUstang » Wed Sep 06, 2023 1:09 pm

I know we should be celebrating our advancement to the ACC instead of looking back. But what if Aresco pulls off a coup like adding Army and Virginia Commonwealth to the AAC to replace SMU? Will that be enough to keep the AAC ahead of the MWC? If not there is still Georgia State and ODU out there, both of whom fit the profile well.

My money is on Georgia State because in expanding the AAC to 14 Aresco pushed for schools in metro areas (San Antonio, Houston, DFW, Birmingham, Charlotte & South Florida) and I think that was a smart move. Georgia State sitting in Atlanta with over 30k students would seem the no-brainer to me because they would replace SMU as an all sports member. SMU funds 6 men's sports and 10 women's while GSU funds 6 men's and 9 women's sports

My bet is on Army, which draws media coverage and a huge fan base nationally, as a FB only member.

BB could have added Gonzaga along with OSU and WSU, but Aresco shut down west ward expansion. VCU is one option, but there could be many to choose from for MBB and WBB.

I'm thinking that Georgia St will replace Memphis when the B12 calls them up. The AAC needs a school in Georgia and Virginia.

Not to be mean but at this point why spend time on this question. I/we wish all the AAC teams well and hope they too play well.

My question is... how much ticket prices are going up and the Mustang club membership. I'm on a fixed income you see.

May have to sell something.

I mean, I completely agree. Thoughts & prayers for Tulane, that’s about all I got. Well, that, and Memphis can go to the Sun Belt.

Its nice to be noticed. Based on ESPN FPI ratings
