In Washington where the Rangers came from, they had decades of futility. Then after 33 years in the abyss, they came back to DC and fans came out. One big change I saw was when I went to Senators games as a kid, it was men and boys. Now 1/2 of those attending are women and girls and I believe it's because of softball. They understand the game. Although when Scherzer was pitching his near perfect game, my wife asked by the fans were cheering on every pitch. I smiled and said, I can't tell you. Just look at the scoreboard very carefully.

spot on- when LB was here and we were winning Moody was the place to see and be seen. when jank tanked the program people lost interest because they support winners.

In fball we don't play top level schools but instead play in a crap conference against mostly second level teams. Next year we will see if major top level teams coming to Dallas makes a difference. I suspect it will. The Fla states, clemsons, dukes etc will generate interest. It is up to our fball program to insure that we are competitive and put an exciting product on the field. If we play well the fans will return for more. I expect crowds of 35k plus for big name games.

We are not getting respect this year because we have not played a respectable schedule thus far. Blowing out bad teams doesn't mean much. But that could change if we win tomorrow convincingly.

"Janked tanked the program." So true. Great in-game coach, but could not recruit to save his life. Very surprised he lasted as long as he did, and that he quit instead of being fired.

While the Mustangs would make sense geographically in the Cotton Bowl, that bowl has had G5 teams each of the last two years. SMU would go to the Peach Bowl (our choice) or Fiesta Bowl."

Interesting. I have heard all of the rumors and speculation all of you have ... but a couple of people within the athletic department said that if all of the stars align in the ways they need to, and SMU gets a New Year's Six Bowl invitation, it would be the Fiesta. Hadn't heard Peach.

Either one sounds good to me.

Honestly depends what other teams would be in the mix and how attractive they are nationally (and locally to each bowl). I’ve seen some speculation that it would be unfair for the Cotton to get stuck with the G5 entrant for a third straight year, but I still have to think that’s the destination if SMU makes it.

Nothing to do but beat Navy, for now, of course.

HL- he lasted that long because nobody would pay for his buyout. He didn't quit, his contract expired and was not renewed.
Not sure what will happen with Lanier if he proves to be unable to make us a top level winner this year. IMO we will get crushed next year by the ACC bluebloods if we aren't substantially better than what we have seen so far this year.

Now on to the bowl games.- Fiesta would be great. Forget that frisco thing- we are much better than that.

I don't know, if the Cotton had UT or A&M vs. SMU, they'd probably be pretty happy. I'd love to play the Whorns.
