Targeting?

Postby EastStang » Sun Nov 05, 2023 8:16 am

So we get called for questionable roughing. Yet a player hitting Stone and leading with his helmet to the head is not targeting?

Those refs were horrible. They also didn’t know the runner has to be down before the play is whistled over.

Targeting is incredibly inconsistent. Unless it’s so obvious that even a non fan can see it, it’s a beauty contest. All in the eyes of the beholder. What is worse is pass interference. And it’s across all football. The contact by both the offense and defense is getting out of control. Needs to be better defined and enforced consistently across college football

Yes the refs were horrible and the TV announcers too.

The TV announcers were so joyful about everything Rice.

Maybe they didn't call targeting because Stone lunged into the tackle, thereby initiating the contact? I don't know, but that's what I thought when I watched it.

On Walker's targeting call, he CLEARLY turned his body so as to initiate contact with his shoulder. So much, in fact, that the Rice QB hit Walker on the back of his helmet.

On the guy who hit Stone, it was the crown of his helmet right into Stone's ear hole.

CLEARLY NOT targeting in the first case. CLEARLY WAS targeting in the second. Those refs SUCKED!

Whistle might have been a little quick but it looked like his forward momentum had been halted and he was being gang tackled

Yes, the defenders made contact but Hudson hadn't stopped moving, In fact, he was spinning when they blew the whistle.

Incredible to blow the whistle so early on that one play and yet let so many other late hits happen the rest of the game.
