Wave hello, (with middle finger) to those chumps from Tulane, since they are quoting PonyFans, com.

First page of their SMU thread seems pretty childish. Hopefully it's just college kids otherwise it accelerated my loss of faith in humanity.

Tulane -4 per CBS
ESPN FPI page gives us a 73% chance of winning

They are definitely not fans of ESPN's FPI projection. Can't say I blame them.

The Tulane fans talk a lot about how well they matched up against us last year without recognizing that this is a completely different SMU team. Particularly on defense. They also seem to be unaware of the fact that Lashlee rested our two top running backs for the entire Navy game. Like us, they have no idea how Stone's injury will change our game plan. But I don't think they have a grasp of exactly how much potential KJ has or how much leadership he will exhibit.

Yeah they are experts on their own team, but not much else. Unless they follow SMU football as much as people on this message board do, they have no idea how much our defense has changed from last year, and how good KJ has looked in his limited playing time.

I think we should leave them in the dark.

I can’t click into it. Says I’ve been “permanently banned” based on my IP location. Never been to the site before. Very odd.

Their forums do not read like they understand college football. Last year is meaningless to both teams. Tulane had a great year, took us to the woodshed. Go Wave!

That has little bearing on this year. Just like our previous 7 wins over Tulane are not relevant. Both teams are different, with a few similarities. Tulane is not as strong as last year. Just watch their games and you can see that they lost some talent. However, as long as Pratt can run the offense, they will be very good.

The other challenge Tulane fans have is grasping HOW MUCH BETTER AND DEEPER our defense is compared to last year. They are guilty of comparing point totals, not realizing that a few of our games were over by halftime and reserves were playing in 3rd and 4th quarter giving up late scores on defense, and playing a very pedestrian offense to burn time on offense.

Our offense is solid and deep. So it comes down to how effective Jennings will be leading this team. If he has any success, I think SMU wins. Our defense will keep us in the game, so it is up to our offense to get enough points to win and keep their offense off the field.

I give the edge to Tulane as the home team and with the veteran QB. SMU is a very hungry and focused team. So I do like our chances even with Jennings. He has played very well when given the opportunity. This will be a huge test on a big stage. Its time for him to shine!

One of the more interesting stats is Tulane only allowed 2.95 (86 ypg) rushing this year. SMU rushed for 4.5 (180). If SMU can win that battle, everything changes. That takes a ton of pressure off a Jennings if we can run effectively.

And last year we helped Tulane with 5 turnovers, including a Pick 6. And I think we were down several starters - and some playing injured - or was that just the bowl game?

Go Mustangs

Let's explain in terms they can understand:

Comparing this SMU team to last year's team is like comparing the 2022 Green Wave to the 2021 Green Wave.

Tulane is the best team we've played this year. But for a lucky break for Ole Miss, they'd be undefeated. They beat better teams than we did throughout the year. We'll have to bring our best game to beat them and get a few breaks. We can win, but this will be a war.

I didn't catch the 2nd half of the game, but they lost by 17. What was the one lucky break for Ole Miss?

Looks pretty close. Games that jump out- Tulsa and ECU. I didn't watch either game, and both seem much tighter than they should be. Maybe they were playing to the level of their opponent?

NTCC was also closer than it should have been.
