Still on ESPN's website....

The Line moved from 5.5 to 4 from earlier today. I wonder if any specific news item triggered it... Anyone? Anyone?

Fak. Can’t get rid of Oregon State or Kansas State.

If we win and Liberty wins, we’re getting hosed.

Depends -- style points will count in both games.

I will be happy with just winning the AAC in our final year. After that, we're moving on to bigger and better things, while the other teams we are talking about will be stuck in G5 hell.

Just win. That eventually solves all issues.

I don't think so. A win for us against a top 25 team will carry a lot more weight than who Liberty is playing.

Especially if our guys can beat Tulane in New Orleans with our backup QB. Compare that to Liberty winning on their home field against an unranked NMSU team that lost to 3-9 UMass and 5-8 Hawaii

Who Liberty is playing (NM State) is ranked 7 spots below us in the AP poll.

Just win and take the title of this crappy conference on the way out with us. Can’t worry about things out of our control.

You have to figure we were right there, the last team left out.

Hopefully, Liberty goes down on Friday night and all this will be moot.

If Liberty does win, I agree that style points could come into play. Would be beneficial for Liberty to win a squeaker and for us to win handily.

I still feel that if we both win, SMU will move ahead of them, but I am less sure than I was 24 hours ago. Would have been huge to have been in that #25 spot this week, then there would have been no question.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... -week-2023

"We're not going to argue with Liberty again -- and in truth, the Flames get a genuine test against New Mexico State in the Conference USA title game, so a win would certainly make them worthy of consideration for a New Year's Six bowl.

"But simply being ranked has value for teams outside the Power 5, and yet only Tulane and Liberty made the cut.

"How is Tulane only No. 22? The Green Wave lost one game, without starting QB Michael Pratt, against the No. 11 team in the country.

"Toledo? SMU? James Madison? Not a whiff.

"And yet here is Tennessee, checking in at No. 21, despite losing by a combined 71 points to the three best teams it played ... despite losing by 13 to 5-7 Florida ... despite its best win coming against Kentucky (by six!) ... Tennessee is in ahead of all those other teams."

According to this article, we win, we're in on 1/1 Bowls. We'll see. Hard to leapfrog an undefeated team. That loss to sorry TCU really hurt.

True - that loss to sorry-ass TCU really hurt. But in our defense, they were better back then (Chandler Morris was playing), and we are better now.
