Historic SMU Snubs

Postby GHammond » Sun Dec 03, 2023 8:27 pm

1983 10-1 and 6th ranked SMU relegated to the Sun Bowl…1982 Cotton Bowl, beat pre season #1 Pitt, finish 10-0-1 and finish 2nd in the nation to a one loss Joe Peda Penn St squad…Eric has 100+ fewer carries V Hascal Waller who has only 125 more yards, ED had more TD’s and a 2 yard higher per carry stat, yet ED finishes 3rd in the Heisman behind Waller and Elpay. Others????? It’s always been this way, folks.

Elpay? “P” and “W” aren’t QWERTY-adjacent. Drink some water, please.

Oh, also I agree. The NCAA snub with LJ and team and band all sitting there. Also getting a 7-seed the year we won the AAC in Connecticut.

So let’s respond differently because we haven’t historically responded well. Blowout out BC.

True snubs to be sure. This latest was expected.

First, the committee did all it could to ensure SMU didn't get ranked over Liberty. First, the committee didn't rank SMU even though the two other polls had us ranked. Second, the committee ranked us one spot behind Liberty and the other two polls had us ranked ahead of Liberty. But the true salt in the wounds was the manipulation of the final CFP ranking. The committee dropped multi week ranked Tulane form #17 to unranked. The other two polls still rank Tulane. The committee can now say, look, SMU didn't bet a final CFP ranked opponent.

Now, just to shore up the ACC, Cleamson is ranked ahead of Liberty and SMU in the final CFP poll. Clemson is unranked in the AP and coaches poll.

The NCAA takes an exorbitant glee in screwing SMU. Football, basketball it doesn't matter.

Sad but unfortunately its the world we live in.

But WHY? Why this multi-generational vendetta? What did we do to the NCAA that would make them want to put this forever-curse upon us? Don't say "pre-death-penalty cheating". The NCAA people involved in that are long gone.

Meanwhile the egregious transgressions of Perv State and Baylor are long forgotten. The cheating done my Michigan doesn’t matter to the committee.

Why it starts with the evil cow in Austin. No other private school in TX has our power to compete with them. Remember we beat them three times in six years and it drove them insane. If you can get your hands on “A Payroll to Meet,” It will enlighten you. Follow the money. Who benefits. I actually feel sorry for the farmers. They thought they had left the evil cow, but now they are in their shadow again.

So UT controls the NCAA and the CFP and still has it in for SMU after 40 years?

Honestly, I don't think UT ever thinks about SMU. I don't think UT can spell SMU.

UT is the epitome of what’s wrong with college football. They want to play by their own rules, entitled, cheat, threaten, manipulate, it’s been their history.

No doubt! But you'd think that, with all that power and money and everything else, they would be able to mix in a championship or two...
