What is everyone hearing...?

Heard some chatter on an Notre Dame board that there are discussions given they have an open date as well...

ND on the road would be an interesting road trip.

What date date they talking about on the ND board? The current open dates for SMU are 9/14, 10/12, and 11/9 and the FCS games vs HCU is on 8/31. Notre Dame is at Purdue on 9/14, hosts Stanford on 10/12, hosts Florida State on 11/9, and is at Texas A&M on 8/31. There is pretty much zero chance they back out of any of those games. Meanwhile, Notre Dame's current open dates are 10/5, 11/2, and 11/23 when SMU is at Louisville, hosts Pitt, and is at Virginia. Those are highly unlikely to change as well as it seems the ACC would not have released it's schedules yet if it was still having to work w/ND and SMU over an OOC game.

According to the writer of this article, Army and ND are in discussions. That leaves SMU playing Hawaii and MSU adding an FCS opponent. https://fbschedules.com/fbs-college-foo ... s-in-2024/

Someone wrote on the other thread that Hawaii wants no part of that proposed game.

Maybe no game and another off week.
Our current schedule is killer.

Since we already have an FCS team on the schedule it makes no sense to schedule another FCS team since it would not count for bowl eligibility.

Also, our schedule is plenty tough enough, so we don't need to go out and try and get a road game against a tough FBS opponent.

I would think we either schedule a cream puff FBS school or just roll with 11 games. Zero upside to scheduling another FCS game.

While adding another P4 opponent would make our non-conference schedule one of the toughest we've had in years, our ACC schedule is probably as favorable as we could have hoped for. I'm all for trying to work a deal with Michigan State (especially if they will come to Dallas at some future date) but I understand why Hart would prefer an FBS opponent we can "pencil in" as a W to increase the chances of becoming bowl eligible

Kind of the logic I have. So happy to be moving up and let's not go too fast too soon.
Just win the ones we already have.

Rhett Lashlee said Wednesday that he thinks SMU will "have a 12th game soon"

MSU is no longer an option, they signed a deal with PVA&M. https://fbschedules.com/michigan-state- ... -schedule/

Unless a deal with Army, Hawaii or ND is pending, SMU will have to get creative to find an FBS opponent.

It's really too bad we don't have stronger attendance that would allow us to pay a visitor more. If the money was right, I have to believe UMass or others might consider dropping games against FCS opponents to come play in Dallas. We are limited in what can be done but so many FBS programs have found themselves with scheduling challenges after this latest round of conference musical chairs

I have a feeling it is going to be Army.
