Interesting. Leaves more off weeks than usual. Off before TCU, before travel to Stanford and before BC. Might really help. Hopefully Nevada agreed to a return visit to Dallas at some future date.

Agree on off weeks, and that’s the opening day of week zero with only two other games: FSU-Ga Tech in Ireland and Montana State-New Mexico. Plus Reno August weather >>> Dallas August weather.

Been there a couple of times for trade shows. I think it'll probably make a really nice destination trip.

SMU Opens Season At Nevada; Completes 2024 Schedule

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU Football team announced the addition of Nevada to the 2024 season schedule on Thursday.

The Mustangs will take on the Wolfpack in the season opener in Reno on Aug. 24, giving them a week 0 contest for the upcoming season.

With the addition of Nevada, SMU has finalized its 12-game regular-season schedule for the year.

The Mustangs will play one weeknight game in the upcoming year, a non-conference game against BYU at home on Friday, Sept. 6, bunched in-between the home opener against HCU (Aug. 31) and 103rd edition of the "Battle for the Iron Skillet" against TCU (Sept. 21).

SMU begins its inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) eight-game schedule with a home contest on Family Weekend against Florida State on Sept. 28. The Mustangs hit the road for three straight after that with games at Louisville (Oct. 5), Stanford (Oct. 19) and Duke (Oct. 26) to wrap up the month of October.

November opens with home games against Pitt (Nov. 2, Homecoming) and Boston College (Nov. 16). The Mustangs head back on the road for its final away game at Virginia (Nov. 23) before the home finale against Cal on Nov. 30

Times and TV information for all games are TBD and will be announced as they become available.

No home games the entire month of October kind of sucks.

Kinda hard to build/maintain any momentum/enthusiasm with a growing fan base if your team vacates your stadium for a month. Hopefully, this will get tweaked for 2025.

It is pretty bizarre to have seven home games yet none in October. But I don't think the fan-base growth is threatened by any week-to-week gap. It's threatened if the team's record isn't good. Dallas will show up in November if the team is winning, and especially if they are ranked.

I love seeing this quote:
“When the opportunity to add an extra home game and especially begin our ‘RenoVation 2024’ at Mackay Stadium came up, we jumped on it,” said Nevada Football head coach Jeff Choate. “Having a Power-4, ACC opponent in SMU coming to Reno this season, there is no reason to not have Mackay Stadium packed.”
