I got an e-mail from a friend of mine who is a recruiting guru, and he gave me an inside tip on a kid named Justin Crooks. He is 6' weighs 215, runs a 4.6,and benches 370. He plays for Austin McNeil hs. I have been told that his first choice is UT, but UT has not shown any interest. I was also told that he is visiting SMU this weekend, and that he REALLY likes SMU. This is very good news. He is a great player. He has been compared to the likes of Zach Thomas. He is also looking at Rice and TCU.

David Garvin is the man that gave me this info. He is a hell of a guy and does a great job scouting talent. Let me add that he will be attending the SMU camp, and was also named Central Texas Defensive Player of the year as a junior. He is attending the SMU camp right now. He is really excited about the Pony Express!

He SHOULD be excited about the Pony Express. Tell him thanks for me. (Or do you think he meant the Mustangs instead of me? Ouch ... that hurts.) Tell him I'll forgive him if he signs with SMU!

Crooks committed to Baylor over the weekend.

Rumor has it he was angry that we didn't offer him a scholarship after he attended our camp.

Justin wasn't angry. He talked to the coaches after the camp and Coach Ringo basically told him that they felt he fit their defense as a middle backer and Smu already had too many.

Justin is an outstanding pickup for the Bears. We've watched him for several years.
