Commentary by: Geoff Ketchum of Lone Star Recruiting

One of the top athletes in the Metroplex is already building a very strong list of offers.

"LSU, Miami, Baylor, SMU and Texas have offered," Dallas (Texas) Hillcrest athlete Ryan Gilbert said. The 6-0, 188-pound Gilbert, who plays quarterback for Hillcrest, but is also being recruited as a defensive back in college, is also receiving quite a bit of attention from Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas Tech.

I have seen this young man play. He is amazingly fast in a sprint, and he is exceptional when changing direction and has unbelievable acceleration/stop-and-go ability.

If there is any way at all to keep this young man here at home, we need to figure out what that way is. He has (at least) Kevin Garrett/Johnnie Freeman speed.

WR, DB -- who cares? He is a tremendous natural athlete who can play a number of positions for us. (At Hillcrest, he plays QB, RB, DB, and returns kicks. And he does all of them well.)

We have quite a battle to get Gilbert, because he is making a mockery of everyone who tries to stop him. He ran and threw for another (combined) five touchdowns this week, and is a game-breaking kick returner.

Coaches: PLEASE get this kid - he'll make us all proud.
