Mustang Recruits Hail from Texas, Oklahoma, and Michigan

February 15, 2001

DALLAS (SMU) - Five talented soccer players have signed national letters-of-intent with the SMU men's soccer program, as announced by SMU head coach Schellas Hyndman. The newest Mustangs are: Jake Jackson (Greenville, Texas), Adam Robertson (Tulsa, Okla.), Ross Spencer (Tulsa, Okla.), T.J. Tomasso (Canton, Mich.), and Zachary Trostel (Arlington, Texas).

Jake Jackson, a 5-10 midfielder, comes to SMU from Greenville, Texas, and attends Greenville High School. Jackson has recorded 45 goals and 34 assists during his high school career. He was named District Newcomer of the Year and his high school team won the district championship. Having served as team captain his sophomore and junior seasons, Jackson was named District MVP and team MVP twice. He was selected All-Area after his junior year. Jackson also letters in football as the place kicker and backup quarterback, making All-State and first team All-District as a junior. His club team, Solar '83, is the two-time Classic League Division I grand champions as well as State Cup champions. Jackson was a member of the state and regional team in 1998 and in the national pool.

A 6-1 forward, Adam Robertson is one of two new Mustangs from Tulsa, Okla. He attends Cascia Hall Preparatory school and was the state's leading scorer as a freshman. Robertson was named MVP after his sophomore season and served as captain for both his high school team as well as his club team, the Tulsa Thunder. He also letters in football, and was selected All-District three times.

Ross Spencer, a 6-1 defender, attends Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, Okla. Spencer participated in the adidas ESP camp and was an ESP All-Star selection. He was also a member of the ODP team. Spencer letters in football as well as basketball. He is a teammate of signee Adam Robertson on the club team, Tulsa Thunder. A National Honor Society member, Spencer plans to major in engineering while attending SMU.

A 6-1 goalkeeper, T.J. Tomasso is from Canton, Mich., and attends Plymouth-Canton High School. Tomasso is an All-State, All-Region, All-District, and All-Conference selection. He was also named team MVP. Tomasso is also a member of the ODP regional team. He plays club soccer team, Vardar 83, coached by Don Smith. Tomasso holds a spot on the school's Honor Roll.

Zachary Trostel, a 5-11 midfielder/defender, attends Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas. He was a 1999 All-District 7-5A honorable mention selection and named to the All-District first team as a sophomore. Trostel is a current member of the '83 ODP State and Regional III team. For the last two years, he has played club soccer with the Dallas Texas U-17 squad. Trostel's previous club teams include the Texas Lightning and Legend. He is a member of the National Honor Society and looks to major in engineering or architecture.

I doubt Coach Cavan and Coach Hyndman will ever share a player again -- which is too bad, because Jackson has a tremendously strong leg. He can hit long field goals consistently.
