Recruiting Summary

I have received my copies of Tom Lemmings 2001 rankings and SuperPreps 2001 Rankings. Guess what? Our class didn't make the top 50 of either! As a matter of fact, Lemming doesn't even have a class ranking for the WAC! Additionally, we didn't get one recruit off his top player list! However, SuperPrep does rank the WAC teams. According to this publication, SMU had the 2nd best class in the WAC. TCU was 5th in the WAC! In order, the WAC was ranked as follows:

1. Tulsa
2. SMU
3. San Jose St.
4. Hawaii
5. TCU
6. Fresno St.
7. Rice
8. Nevada
9. UTEP

Impact Signees were Earl Morris, Jay Taylor and Cedric Vinson.
The "Jewel" is Shanderrick Charles.
The "Sleeper" is Chris McMurtray
"Fish they couldn't catch" is Fred Threat. SMU also cajoled visits from DB B.J. Johnson and OL Vicor Mercado who was listed as an impact signee for Tulsa.
Schools SMU hurt the most: Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech, University of Kentucky, Rice, and Tulsa.

I thought you might find this of interest. Feel free to post to the other board for their reaction.

I disagree with some of the analysis of SMU's class. While I agree that it is a better class than many give credit for, I would submit the following changes:

Impact signees: Jay Taylor, Trey Griffin, Shanderrick Charles, Don Stansbury, Russ Davis
Jewel: Cedric Vinson
Sleeper: T.J. James (is that his name? The DB from Dallas Bishop Lynch)

Your thoughts?
