Postby Fox 7 Sports » Wed May 30, 2001 2:49 pm

We just talked to Georgetown OL Steven Brent and he ells us he has received his first scholarship offer and it is from the Ponies. Check out the full story on our Austin Area Prospects site:

By the way, we have a pic of Steven and our webmaster promises me it will be up on the site any day now.

At 6-4, 270, that 4.8 40 looks good. But at that size, he should be benching a lot more than 320. Is he strong enough?

Also, it looks like we have a lot of work ahead of us to keep him away from the u.t.'s and a&m's of the world....

at that size and speed before his Sr year in H.S., this guy will have a lot of options that will be more attractive than SMU. Until we start winning some games and putting more butts in the seats of Ford, it's going to be tough to convince kids to play here when they have options to go to winning programs in BCS conferences. I like the fact that we are offering early and hope we stay on kids like this to let them know we REALLY want them and that they'd have a shot at coming in and playing right away. It would be unusual for a frosh OL to start, but more likely at SMU than other places.

After impressive showings at combines this spring, there have been plenty of people trumpeting the potential of Steven. You can count Geoff Ketchum among them.

While SMU is the first to offer him, they won't be the last. The Ponies have their work cut out for them but it sounds like they are on the ball. Brent & Thompson are both very solid prospects.

We need a big man like that to get early commitments started. Get him to commit, coaches! Send BUS after him!
