I know you are sincere when you post a list like this but WHY do you do it when a large number of these young men have already commited to other schools and have no interest in S.M.U! Also, some of the ones that have not comitted still show no interest in S.M.U.! Not trying to slam your effort but lets just list the ones that we might realistically have a shot at.

50's Pony - you're absolutely right. There are players on that list who have committed elsewhere already, and there are those who have no interest in SMU.

However, it's barely August. And we're talking about kids who are 17 and 18 years old. They change their minds about EVERYTHING, so there's a chance they might change their minds on recruiting. The Morton kid (center) from McKinney already has committed to two different schools, first A&M, and now Notre Dame. Who's to say he won't change his mind again? I'm not saying he's going to end up at SMU -- I don't think he will. But I also didn't think a few years ago that there was any chance Jack Brewer would sign with SMU, and he was a last-minute signee who changed his mind the night before Signing Day (which, for those who care, is Feb. 6 this year).

I follow recruiting for a living, and I'm a proud SMU graduate. Does that make me any more able to peer into a crystal ball than anyone else? Of course not. But I can tell you there are kids on this list at whom we have a chance. Would it help if we'd gone undefeated last year and played every game on national TV? Of course. But that's not the cards we've been dealt. I'm trying to look at this from a standpoint of who we MIGHT be able to get. Come December and January, we'll all have a much better idea of what players are headed to Dallas.

With that said, here is a list of players I think SMU has a shot at. No guarantees, of course, but at least have a shot. I'm not saying SMU will get all -- or maybe any -- of these kids. But there are a lot of recruiting nuts out there, like myself, who always are curious to see what kind of players SMU is chasing, and which players have at least some interest in SMU. This list is only a start. There will be a lot more as recruiting season really hits full stride.

Houston (Madison) QB Vincent Young
Arkadelphia QB Paul Goza
Mineral Wells QB Josh Ducketts
Houston Westbury RB Brent Slaughter
Smithson Valley RB Clint Haney
Dallas (Bryan Adams) WR Dameon Collins
Newton WR Will Gulley
Friendswood WR Michael Malone
Wimberly WR Mikey Meeks
Beaumont (Ozen) WR Brandon Rideau
Spring WR Wardell Starling
Midland Lee TE Eric Winston
Dallas (Lincoln) TE/DE Jarre Rhodes
RHODES WOULD BE A HUGE PICKUP. THE MAN IS A GREAT PROSPECT.
Lancaster OL Gerrell Golightly
Allen OL Neal Tweedie
Tyler (Lee) OL Phillip Walls
Arlington (Martin) OL Adam Wood
Arlington (Sam Houston) DT Malala Tai
Wichita Fallas DE Jeremy Wheeler
Mesquite (North) LB Aaron Harris
Bay City LB Nurahda Manning
Tyler (John Tyler) LB Pagitte McGee
Katy (Taylor) DB Michael Cuba -- will be a battle to land him, but well worth it
Richardson (Pearce) DB Matt Fawley
Garland DB Edorian McCullough
Port Arthur (Lincoln) DB Ricky Wilson

Thanks for pairing down the list. Things are looking up on the recruiting front. What do you know about Tate Wallis?
