DMN reports commitment #6

Postby PonyGirl » Tue Oct 16, 2001 6:30 pm

Found this on the Dallas Morning News' site:

"Alifaleti "Claymore" Likio, a 6-3, 312-pound defensive tackle for Euless Trinity, committed to play football for SMU.

Likio said a major reason he chose SMU was to join Trinity teammate and friend Robert Gilmore. Gilmore, a defensive back who is out for the season with a knee injury, committed to SMU during the summer.

Verbal commitments are non-binding. Signing day is Feb. 6. "

I've seen Likio play. He is impossible to move. Having a real good time picturing him lined up next to Darrian Billups, Randy Denman and Marcus Walker. For the first time in years, we're going to have a nice rotation of huge, strong defensive tackles. Warrie Birdwell will be the old man when these guys get rolling, and Adami will be a nice complement. But we're look at major Div.-I size and talent at the tackle spots. This should free up the linebackers for more tackles, and should allow the defensive ends to generate more of a pass rush and make more tackles, because running backs will be forced to bump outside.

Welcome Claymore, Darrian and Randy. (And any more defensive linemen who head this way.) Can't wait for Feb. 6 (Signing Day). This is the start of some depth on the line, the likes of which we haven't had in years. If we start dominating on the lines, the rest will fall into place, and fast!
