Morning News print edition lists Johnson as a defensive end. Their website calls him a tight end/offensive line candidate. WHat a well-oiled machine they have down there at the DMN.

Their web report:
"North Dallas tight end commits to SMU"

North Dallas tight end/offensive tackle Darrin Johnson has orally committed to SMU.

The 6-6, 270-pound Johnson picked SMU over Texas A&M.

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day football players can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 6."

Add another commitment, Chris Urbanus, OL, Alvarado. Size- 6-5, 280. Plus Matt Terry, RB, Jacksonville, FL scholarship will be awarded next semester. Counting Hulsey Smith, who also will count against 2002 new recruits makes 14 so far. Taylor Schuster of Sharyland was announced as commitment earlier this fall, but this announcement may have been premature , so I am not counting him.

ProudPonyPa, I don't blame you for being proud...I like the size of your son. Tall with some meat on his bones (all muscle I assume). Welcome to the SMU family. We may be a little dysfunctional at times, but we love our football. We're looking forward to it getting better...hope your son will stay the course and be a part of that!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Welcome aboard, ProudPonyPa! Glad to have your son as a Mustang. Actually got to see a few seconds of him throwing over the summer - nice size and nice release, looked (for the brief second I watched) like he has a very strong arm, too. Always nice to have another strong bullet in the QB arsenal. Welcome.

Donnie must love being in a signing class that includes so many big linemen!
