2002 Wish List in FB Recruiting

Postby Boston Pony » Thu Dec 13, 2001 9:19 pm

Considering the current commitments, what else do we need? Immediate and long term:
Inside Linebackers
Defensive Ends
Corner backs
Fullbacks - if used in new offense
Tight Ends
Punter
???

So far I'm counting around 3 or 4 OL and an equal amount on the DL on commitments. This maybe the largest haul of large men in years.

While we can always use linemen, what other positions? Again, MLB, CB, FB & TE seem to be immediate.

I assume you know LB Akin Akinniyi committed to Arizona? Too bad - he's a player.

Just a hunch, but I wonder if we have our last offensive commitment. If you look back at the defenses Coach Bennett has put together at KState, Oklahoma, Texas a&m and tcu, they were based on defensive linemen who could really run and defensive backs who could cover single-handedly. There will be many times when KG and Jonas will be asked to cover one-on-one, and the safeties will step up into run coverage. Thank god we have KG and Jonas. Great corners who will make Coach Bennett's plan work. Wouldn't surprise me to see all remaining scholarships go to defensive players.

Hopefully Darrin Johnson and Corey Ford will be among them. Get them back!
