Skyline question for Coach Rob

Postby GrapevineMustang » Wed Apr 03, 2002 7:20 pm

What happened to that bg defensive tackle you mentioned - I think his name is Steven Cooper or Coleman or something like that?

Isn't he going to be a senior this fall? You CAN'T let him follow Corey Ford to Baylor High. Does he have any interest in SMU? What are his interests when it comes to picking schools? Playing time? Academics?

How big/fast/strong is he now?

Thanks

Steven Coleman is really considering SMU, along with TCU, A&M, LSU, Florida, Florida St., Miami, Notre Dame, Penn State, UCLA, Colorado and a host of other schools. So far I have been contacted by Florida, Miami, A&M, Notre Dame and SMU about Steven. He is 6'5" 275lbs and runs a 4.9 40. He is benching 285 and squating 415. Steven attended SMU's Junior Day and the only camp he's ever been to is the SMU camp. Well, the first camp that he will attend this year will the Rivals 100 camp at SMU. Coach Giles and Coach Bennett are excited about Steven ability and the fact that he made a 940 on the SAT. Steven's Top Five are SMU, LSU, Florida, Florida St. and Notre Dame. He hasn't been offered by anyone yet, but you can best believe after the Rivals Camp he will have several offers.

If SMU can sign Coleman, that would be a major accomplishment. He is a monster. He might be able to start for SMU today - he's that strong and effective. Coach Rob is right when he says that Coleman will have offers after the Rivals camp. He should be a mjor priority for the SMU coaches, and the fact that he's already got his test score is a great start.

Sounds like a guy we could plug into the middle of the line right away. Hope the coaches can sell him at the camps this summer.

Coach Rob -

What about the other Skyline guys that are mentioned on the thread called "14 more ...."

What are our chances of getting them? Can you give some profile info on each? Including their level of interest in the Ponies?

Bobby Layton, Nick Fellows, Calvin Brown and John Kimble are all interested in SMU. As for their profiles, I'll give a detailed description of these guys along with a few other of our top prospects after the Rivals Junior Day on April 27th. I would say that SMU has a good chance at these guys.
